Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about CertGuard SSL monitoring, alerts, and account management.

Q:How do I add a domain to monitor?

After signing up, go to your Dashboard and click "Add Monitor." Enter your domain name (e.g., example.com or https://example.com), choose your alert thresholds (7, 14, or 30 days before expiry), and save. CertGuard will immediately check your SSL certificate and schedule future checks based on your plan.

Q:How do SSL certificate checks work?

CertGuard connects to your website over HTTPS, retrieves the SSL certificate, and extracts information including expiry date, issuer, fingerprint, certificate chain, and subject alternative names (SANs). We verify the certificate is valid, not expired, and properly configured. We do NOT perform deep security audits or penetration testing.

Q:How often does monitoring run?

Check frequency depends on your plan: Free (6-hour checks), Pro (1-hour checks), Business (30-minute checks), Enterprise (custom intervals). Monitoring runs automatically via scheduled cron jobs—not 24/7 continuous monitoring. You can also manually trigger a check anytime from your dashboard.

Q:What alert channels are available?

CertGuard supports Email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Webhooks, and Zapier integrations. SMS alerts are coming soon. You can configure multiple alert channels and choose which events trigger notifications (certificate expiry warnings, downtime alerts, certificate changes).

Q:What happens if my certificate is expired or invalid?

If CertGuard detects an expired or invalid certificate, you'll receive an immediate CRITICAL alert via all your configured channels. The dashboard will show the status as "Invalid" or "Expired" with a red indicator. However, CertGuard does NOT fix certificates—you must renew/replace them yourself. We only notify you of issues.
